Steve Kootenay-Jobin

During his time at MRU as Housing Director, Steve Kootenay-Jobin was repeatedly informed of discrimination and misconduct affecting Indigenous students. Despite his position, no steps were taken, no follow-ups issued, and no harm acknowledged. He now serves as Director of SAIT's Indigenous Centre.

Failure to Escalate

Reports sent to Steve included detailed timelines of exclusion, financial obfuscation, and academic neglect. In each case, the response was silence. The pattern reflects a larger institutional stance — a reluctance to challenge peers, and a preference for containment over action.

A Leadership Role in Name Only

With a title that implied advocacy and housing oversight, Steve had both the authority and the opportunity to make institutional change — or at least demand accountability. His failure to do either reveals the danger of symbolic leadership with no ethical follow-through.
